Chromic Sulphite

The normal salt is not known. On boiling the green solution obtained by dissolving chromic hydroxide in aqueous sulphurous acid, or on the addition of alcohol, a green basic sulphite, of composition Cr₂(SO₃)₃.2Cr(OH)₃.13H₂O, separates. Other basic sulphites have been described, as also have chromic dithionate, Cr₂(S₂O₆)₃.18H₂O, and the compound 3Cr₂O₃.4S₂O₅.24H₂O.
