Chromic Sulphite

The normal salt is not known. On boiling the green solution obtained by dissolving chromic hydroxide in aqueous sulphurous acid, or on the addition of alcohol, a green basic sulphite, of composition Cr2(SO3)3.2Cr(OH)3.13H2O, separates. Other basic sulphites have been described, as also have chromic dithionate, Cr2(S2O6)3.18H2O, and the compound 3Cr2O3.4S2O5.24H2O.
